Tunable white light technology provides the ability to control a light source’s color temperature and intensity. It has been used to support the aesthetic design visions of a space, but today this technology is also at the forefront of health and wellness applications directly affected by light.
The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from 46 million in 2016 to over 98 million by 2060, and the 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise to nearly 24 percent from 15 percent. This aging population creates a growing demand for compassionate care options for seniors including independent living, rehab/transitional care, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home care.
New business models, increased competition, digital technology and green building design top the list of commercial real estate trends expected in 2019. We are currently in a period of economic growth, which has heated up the competition for deals, talent, tenants, and capital. There was a similar set of trends in 2018 however in 2019 we expect to see more urgency, particularly in the area of technology adoption.

We have highlighted the benefits of green building standards in previous blogs including The WELL Building Standard: The Future of Modern Design and Going Green with LEED. Now, a report from the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) makes the business case for green buildings that contain health and wellbeing features such as enhanced fresh air ventilation, an increase of daylight penetration and the use of biophilic design elements. Findings cited in the report include reduced employee absenteeism, minimized operating costs and employees that felt more productive and healthier after these features were added.
The connection between natural light and health, well-being and productivity are widely known. However, in today’s society where the majority of people spend up to 90% of their time indoors, it is often hard to reap the benefits of natural light.
Driving in a 24-hour car race surely tests a driver’s fortitude. These day and night racing events are grueling. Weather is unpredictable and the pace of the cars can exceed over 200 mph. When darkness comes, the drivers don’t slow down—they continue to rocket through the track.

Boston TechJam is a showcase and accelerator for new ideas and world-class innovations coming out of the Boston, MA region. The annual event kicks off the summer and brings everyone in the tech ecosystem together to exchange ideas and celebrate the region’s technology, entrepreneurship and culture. Music, food trucks, local brews and ciders, and cool technology were center stage on June 14th on Boston’s City Hall Plaza.
This was OSRAM’s first time participating at Boston TechJam.
